Developments at KPS
Leading up to Christmas 2015 we held a fundraising drive to raise money for a new building which would have the double function of providing a dining hall, so the children could eat lunch away from the heat of the sun, but also serve as an additional two classrooms.
Our supporters once again came through wonderfully and the funds were raised (over £10,000) in just two months. During July 2016. An AZAR team of 10 from the UK travelled out to assist local builders with the building and to also teach lessons.
During this visit some of our trained volunteers assisted KPS staff to establish a special educational needs class and gave much needed training on working with the special needs children they have at the school. This was a great success and as a result the education department built a bespoke special needs classroom and teachers room on the site in 2017.
Also, in August 2016, thanks to a generous donor, AZAR installed electricity in a two classroom block at KPS. This is providing lighting and somewhere to run computers for the teachers for lesson preparation. We hope this will ultimately allow us to establish an IT suite in the school, running donated laptops with software to help with English teaching and learning. We believe this will make a marked improvement in the English levels of the children as well as giving them important IT skills.
